Pamela's books are inspired by actual English manors. She stated that Kentwell Hall, in Long Melford, Suffolk, "would be Goldhayes if they ever filmed it".  Rushbrooke, the original "Goldhayes" inspiration, was unfortunately demolished.

The Great Chalfield Manor, in Wiltshire, England, was to inspiration of her Wintercombe series.
